Bea White has alas been found murdered outside City Hall but evidence suggests this was not where the murder was committed. The trail for clues starts at the Europa Hotel, where her boyfriend used to work.

Who Annihilated Ursula And Delivered Her To The Ulster Museum?

As you might expect, the Ulster Museum have occasional deliveries of new artefacts and exhibits to put on display but it’s fair to say they weren’t expecting to find the body of Ursula Powers when a recent delivery was opened! The clues collated from evidence confirm she was killed somewhere in Belfast – intriguingly, the mystery behind her death can be unravelled by following the clue trail around the floors of the museum using some of the very interesting items on display to solve the case clues!
  • The Ulster Museum Whodunit Hunt is our first indoor self-guided murder mystery trail… perhaps the only indoor one commecially available in the UK or Ireland!

Who Fatally Hurt Harry In Holywood?

Harry Woods has alas been found murdered in Holywood, North Down, and our over-worked investigator needs your help to bring the case to a close. We recommend you start your search for clues at Holywood’s historic priory, as his body was found there; however, detectives think the body was left there to confuse us and believe the murder was carried out elsewhere.
  • The Holywood Whodunit Hunt is a self-guided, walking murder mystery trail.
  • Much of Holywood is designated a conservation area, preserving the grand 19th Century architecture that resulted from wealthy industrialists and merchants moving here after the railway opened in 1848. Along the clue trail you’ll come across quite a number of historic buildings, including of course the ruined priory; the only maypole on the island of Ireland is here too!
  • The route is only 1¼ miles, or about 2 km, and fairly flat too, so perfect for those who don’t want to walk so much. The clue trail starts/ends at the priory (see map below).
  • The Whodunit Hunt booklet is packed with nearly 30 clues to solve as well as several pieces of extra historical information.
  • The recommended time for this murder mystery is 1½ – 2 hours. Extend your visit here with a refreshment stop at one of Holywood’s great coffee shops, cafes, or restaurants.
  • Accessibility – this is a generally quite flat route, although some streets have moderate inclines.

Alan Meekin has been found murdered at Belfast Castle and our best but overworked investigator needs your help to solve the case. It is believed that Alan was likely murdered elsewhere and so the hunt for clues starts at Waterworks Park in Belfast.

  • This is a self-guided, linear driving Whodunit Hunt, starting near Drumbeg and ending in Belfast.
  • On your clue hunt you’ll see historic houses and gardens, an ancient burial tomb, the site of an American military cemetery, visit a historic waterway and the land of Narnia… and more!
  • The driving route is only 20 miles / 31 km long with nearly 30 clues to solve! There is nearly 2 ¾ / 4 ¼ km of walking in total.
  • It is recommended to allow 4-5 hours to solve this murder mystery, excluding refreshment stops.
  • Accessibility – there are no steps to navigate but moderate inclines.

All have a significant amount of history to uncover, show you some grand and impressive architecture, and many will reveal quite surprising facts linked to both places and the people that shaped them!

The places listed below (by county) all have single-location walking murder mystery trails outstanding with our detectives for you to solve… or maybe we just think they’re outstanding trails! 🙂 Click on any location link for more detail.

The vast majority of clues on our Whodunit Hunts are accessible by those with prams and wheelchair users, as our detectives have determined routes for more thorough clue investigation with as few steps as possible. Driving Hunts

driving direcionsIf you have access to a vehicle / motorbike (or are a super cyclist) then try one of our multi-location driving Whodunit Hunts! They all take you to several interesting places, include lovely scenery, and reveal much history along the way. Some are circular routes (i.e. starting and ending at the same place, or nearby) while others are linear. Directions are given as you progress along the route, though sometimes you’ll have to keep your spy senses on the lookout for signs to navigate to a destination!

  • In County Antrim are three driving Whodunits – the Antrim Coast trail (starts at Larne), our new Antrim Castles trail (starts north Belfast), and our magical Belfast Narnia Trail that explores the southeast outer-Belfast area.
  • The deluxe Ards Peninsula trail starts at Bangor and ends at Grey Abbey.
  • Two driving Whodunits start in Dundalk – the Blackrock Coastal Trail and our Patrick Kavanagh Trail, the latter following in the footsteps of the famous Irish poet.
  • The Boyne Valley drive starts at the amazing Monasterboice Crosses site in County Louth (shown in the photo).
  • The Cavan Lakelands trail explores the beautiful lakes of County Cavan.
  • Our first driving Whodunit in County Kildare is the Clane-Maynooth Trail.
  • The Cooley Peninsula trail starts at Newry and ends at Lordship, near Dundalk, enjoying beautiful coastal scenery.
  • The Diamond Trail starts near Loughgall and ends at historic Tynan village.
  • Our Glenshane-Heaney Trail hops between Mid Ulster and County Derry to visit numerous historic sites with stunning countryside!
  • The Hillsborough Trail starts at the forest park at Royal Hillsborough, ending nearby.
  • The Lecale Coast, starting at Maghera near Newcastle and ending in Ardglass, is jam-packed with historic sites!
  • The Lough Neagh trail explores the western side of the Lough from Oxford Island to Cranfield Church.
  • Our Lower Lough Erne Trail stops at numerous historic sites all around the lough; it starts and ends near Enniskillen.
  • Our Meath Murder Mystery starts at ancient Athboy, visiting some fabulous sites including Fore Abbey. We’ve also just launched our brand new Meath-Fingal Coast Trail that explores the coastline from Drogheda to Rush.
  • In the Newry & Mourne area are several driving Whodunits – the Mourne Coastal Trail, Mourne Mountains, Slieve Croob Trail, and the Slieve Gullion trail. Our Newry Canal Trail murder mystery also starts on the outskirts of Newry.
  • Our Sperrins trail explores the many historic sites in this moutain area.
  • The St Patrick’s Trail starts at historic Inch Abbey near Downpatrick and follows in the footsteps of St Patrick.
  • The Tassagh Trail starts at Markethill and ends at Darkley Wood with the fairies!
  • Our deluxe Torrent Trail starts at Dungannon and ends at Aughnacloy, with nearly 40 clues to solve!

As with Walking Hunts, the majority of clues on driving Whodunits are accessible for wheelchair users, or those with prams, as our detectives have determined routes with as few steps as possible. The amount of walking on a Driving Hunt is usually less than Walking Hunts and is also spread across a number of clue stops. Check individual Whodunit Hunt pages for full details.

On Driving Whodunit Hunts, the majority of clues are not far from where you park, so if accompanied by a dog it can be left in the car if you wish. Very occasionally, several clues are at one stop and in such cases it is best to take your pet with you – maybe your dog can help sniff out one or two clues! 🙂

What’s A Whodunit Hunt?

A Whodunit Hunt is a self-guided outdoor murder mystery trail that takes you on a fascinating journey through places rich in history, culture, and natural beauty! Solve clues to identify the guilty suspect who murdered the poor victim, the weapon they used, and the crime scene location. Think Cluedo® but outdoors… with fun and fresh air, a bit of exercise, and an exciting way to discover new places. You might even stumble upon hidden gems right on your doorstep! Or make sightseeing even more fun when visiting a new area – our Whodunit trails are a great way of seeing lots of great places without you needing to do the research!

How It Works

  • Choose your trail – pick from a variety of locations across Ireland, each with unique clues and routes. Over 60 available!
  • Follow the directions – we provide step-by-step instructions so no map is needed!
  • Solve the mystery – work through the clues to identify the suspect, weapon, and location. If you get stuck, use our email help service for hints.
  • Submit your answer to the Superintendent to see if you’ve cracked the case. If you have, you’ll be entered into our prize draws!
  • Once you’ve bought a trail you can do it on any day that suits you!

Types Of Clues You’ll Solve

Suspect clues – find names on signs, grave stones, or landmarks; some may even be anagrams!

Weapon Clues – eliminate weapons based on two-digit evidence IDs: this may relate to a date, a measurement … or a simple maths sum!

Location Clues – rather than a room, as with Cluedo®, identify real-world locations such as a museum or a coffee shop.

SS Drogheda JFor an extra challenge, keep an eye out to find four Super Sleuth picture clues for an extra entry into our prize draws! But you don’t need to find them to solve the murder mystery.
